The player can find NPCs while exploring the world in Villages, Dungeon and Caves. NPCs will also occasionally arrive at the player's settlement.

The player can trade with some NPCs in order to earn coins and buy the necessary equipment. In addition, most NPCs can be hired with coins and items the NPCs like and become settlers in the player's settlement. Some NPCs are only available for recruitment after certain conditions are met, such as defeating Bosses.

NPCs health scale based on your progress in the Elder's quest. other stat improvements are dependent on the Equipment worn by the settler.

NPCs can join your Adventure Party and follow you on mines and expeditions

NPCs that can join your settlement[edit]

All settlers will do hauling, crafting, forestry and farming, except for Guards, which can only do hauling, and the Elder, which cannot do anything. Some settlers can also perform special tasks:

Farmer fertilizes the fields using the fertilize zones
Hunter hunts critters
Animal Keeper does husbandry, taking care of your cows and sheep
Mage enchants trinkets, weapons and some tools
Angler can be sent on fishing trips
Explorer can be sent to discover new islands and to explore caves
Stylist can change your appearance
Miner can be sent on mining trips

The settlers will be happier the larger a room, more furniture and the better Food they consume. Happy settlers have much better shop prices and take fewer and shorter breaks.
Special services from Mage, Angler, Explorer, and Stylist require coins in exchange.

Settlers have two requirements for appearing:

  • Visitor Requirement: Required for the settler to appear as a visitor to a settlement.
  • Recruitment Requirement: Requirement for a settler to join your settlement.

Other NPCs[edit]

Not all NPCs are recruitable. Some unrecruitable NPCs may visit your island.

NPC Death[edit]

If a settler dies during a Raid Event or from monster attacks, they do not respawn, but the same type of settler has a very high chance to arrive soon after to be recruited.

Bosses that spawn when summoned such as Evil's Protector or Ancient Vulture can also kill settlers, be wary of summoning these too close to your Settlement.

NPC management[edit]

NPCs can leave your town if they're hungry or unhappy. To feed them, place a storage item such as a chest or cooler and set it as communal storage (to do this, click on the little green house in the top right corner). To keep them happy, you can ask them how they're feeling and respond to their requests. It's possible to have them sleep in more than one house, but their hapiness will diminish.

Adventure Party[edit]

You can add NPCs to your Adventure Party to follow you to mines and incursions. They fight enemies and bosses for you.

You should have the following in the adventure party inventory:

  • Health Potions - So they can heal
  • Food - To Eat and keep them from starving
  • Buff Potions - If you want them to have buffs
  • Recall Scrolls - So they can teleport home in case their HP drops too low (but this is not guaranteed; NPCs may get killed before having a chance to do so)

The HP of bosses are increased when you have NPCs in your Adventure Party.
