The Explorer can be found in Desert caves after defeating the Void Wizard boss. They can be sent on expeditions for various items.

The Explorer can also do hauling, crafting, forestry and farming tasks.

Expeditions

By spending Coins, player can send the Explorer on expeditions for a selected location (Ex: Caves, Dungeon, Pirate). The coins required for an expedition is randomly generated, and are not affected by Happiness. Expeditions get more expensive the further into the game the selected location is.

Expeditions are only available to locations that are part of the previous or ongoing Elder's Quests.The last unlocked expedition has a 60% chance to be successful, the one before that 80% and any prior 100%.

If the expedition was successful, the Explorer will bring back loot that is naturally obtainable from previously selected locations, this includes but does not limit to chest loot, Minerals, Ores, Trinkets, Weapons, Happiness Objects and monster Drops. A failed expedition will not yield any loot.

A notable exception to the expeditions' loot are some of the vinyls that were added in 1.0. These can only be obtained through directly searching chests in caves. These include but does not limit to  IcyRuse Vinyl and  TheControlRoom Vinyl from the Deep Snow Caves &  LostGrip Vinyl from the Deep Swamp Caves. By selling all the loot, an Expedition might yield more coins than what it costs. Expeditions are also great for passively obtaining valuable resources like Iron or rare loot like Vinyls and Trinkets.
