Raiders are unique enemies that attack settlements at night during Raid Event. They have random appearances and are equipped with armor and weapons.

Raids will take place occasionally after dusk. They will not occur if the settlement has less than 3 settlers.

Raids Frequency[edit]

Baseline Raid Frequency is between 1.5 and 2.5 hours. Each raid increases the next maximum cooldown by 30 minutes up to an upper limit of 5 hours.

Completing settlement boss quests reduces this maximum cooldown by 30 minutes again, never going below the base 2.5 hours.

Raids will become more frequent as more Challengers Banner are placed, with each reducing the time for a raid by 1 second every second. This means 1 banner will reduce the time to 50%, 2 will reduce it to 33%, 3 banners = 25%, 4 banners = 20%, and so on. With enough Challenger Banners, it's possible to trigger a raid every night.

Type of Raiders[edit]

V0.31 added 16 Raider loadouts. Different loadouts use different gear and have a chance to drop different items.

Raids[edit]

Raiders will come from a specific direction, and they will spawn in and prepare for a short time before attacking. You can also see the raiders on the island map, so you will know where to defend.

Warning message about upcoming raid

Raiders will come in waves, each wave will consist of several small groups. The total number of raiders is determined by the amount of settlers in the settlement they are attacking. The minimum is 20 raiders, and there is no maximum (e.g. with 15 settlers there will be 53 raiders). The raiders will move towards the center of the settlement and the houses occupied by the settlers. Settlers usually stay in their rooms at night, but they will come out to fight the raiders as they approach their rooms. When a settler loses approximately half their health, they will retreat to their room to heal.

The path they take depends on a "cost" system. For more explanation, check out this page.

Raiders attacking the settlement

If there is no other Settler to distract the raiders, they will go to the nearest occupied room, break in the door and attack the settler inside until either they or the settler are dead or knocked down. If a settler is killed, the raiders will move on toward the center of the settlement attacking any settler they find on their way. The more settlers you have, the more they will try to kill before leaving. The exact numbers depend on difficulty, see the tables below:

  • Killing Raiders drops a random amount of coins and sometimes their weapon or part of their armor.

Raider attacks will continue until a message pops up that the raiders are taking everything they can and leaving. They will flee to the edge of the zone and disappear, even ones fighting at the time. If the Raiders successfully flee, they would have stolen some stuff from your settlement.

On Classic or Below difficulty, settlers are not killed when defeated during a raid. Instead, they are only knocked down and can be revived with a Revival Potion crafted with Alchemy Table or sold by the Elder.

On higher difficulties when settler dies during a raid, they do not respawn, but the same type has a very high chance to arrive soon after to be recruited.

    Raider Power Level[edit]

Several factors affect their power level:

    • Settler's and Player's Gear level. Raiders will always have similar or worse gear as the best geared player or settler.
    • Success in previous raids: Based on how much damage was dealt, the next raid's raiders will have a damage multiplier, maximum 125% (if they keep failing), minimum 50% (if all settlers keep dying). It will only change in small increments and will reach the min/max after a few raids.

Note : Raiders will still use gear at similar level as the player even if the player does not go to the settlement during the raid, as long as the player is online.

    Ending a Raid[edit]

There are two main ways a Raid will end. Either all the Raiders have been defeated/killed, or that the Raiders decide to leave.

Raiders can start considering to leave if they have lost 50% of their men. The more men they lost, the higher the chance they leave.

When leaving, raiders will sometimes decide to loot before leaving. The chance for them to loot before leaving will depend on how many percent of raiders are still alive when they decided to leave. At 50% raiders still alive, they have a 100% chance to loot. At 25% raiders still alive, they have 50% chance to loot and so on.

    Defending Against Raids[edit]

Surrounding one's territory with a wall will not stop raiders by itself. If they can't find a way, the raiders will break through the wall and enter. However, a wall with predetermined entrances are helpful to funnel raiders and not get attacked from multiple directions at the same time

Raids are meant to be defended with the help of the player gathering all settlers together. You can gather all your Settlers by opening your settlement menu (default is "C") > Command > Select All Settlers > Follow me.

It is recommended that your settlers are similarly geared as your player. However, even if most of your settlers are not as strong as you, there is a strength in numbers and the stacked damage by an army of settlers will easily overwhelm raiders. Ranged and Magic Weapons are the most recommended, especially those with AOE such as The Crimson Sky.

Traps can be used in defending against raids, such as a Kill Maze For Raiders. Kill mazes are still useful even against higher level raiders. It might not be able to outright kill most endgame raiders, but a simple maze can still significantly damage them. For example, the examples in Kill Maze For Raiders can bring down endgame T5 geared raiders to below 50% hp.
