Guide:Getting Started/Your First Cave

⚠️ Elder's Warning: When you head down the ladder to the caves place down a  Torch which will allow you to survey your immediate surroundings as we are not alone down here in the caves.

Cave Enviroment

Exploring caves

💡 Elder's Tip: Now that we are down here in the caves you want to start walking around placing  Torch as you go as it will help you to see your surroundings.

As you walk around you can mine the surrounding  Rock to make paths, clear space or just to collect the  Stone that drops when they are broken down.

💡 Elder's Tip: It's worth holding onto the  Stone to bring home with you as you can use them to craft a Forgeat the  Workstation back on the surface or store them in an  Storagebox for later as they can also be used to craft Stone Wall but we will cover that after our first trip here in the caves

Mining Resources

As you explore underground, you will occasionally encounter rocks with different appearence. these could be Ore Veins or other resources. These are important for progression and should always be mined when found.

Identifying Resources

Different resources can be recognized by their colour and appearance:

• Copper Vein: Orange-tinted rock
• Iron Vein: Light brown rock
• Gold Vein: Gold-colored rock (rare)
• Clay Rock: Dark reddish-brown, soil-like material

What You Get

Mining these resources provides the following when we mine them

• Copper Vein →  Copper Ore
• Iron Vein →  Iron Ore
• Gold Vein →  Gold Ore
• Clay Rock →  Clay

💡 Elder's Tip: These resources play an important role in our progression and will be used when we return to the surface.

Gathering as much as you can on this first trip will make exploration easier on your next trip down in the caves

Using Potions

You will often come across potions down in the caves sometimes you will get them from Treasure Rooms and sometimes from Cave Crates and you will be able to make your own later, but they all will have various positive Buffs to the players stats

💡 Elder's Tip: you will already have recieved some  Health Potionfrom the chest in the elders house and you should have them on you. drinking one of these will restore a chunk of your current health


you can find out about different potions and their effects Here but i will talk about a few of them now as it is important later for combat:

•  Attack Speed Potion (Increases attack speed by 15% with a duration of 5 minutes)
•  Battle Potion (Increases damage dealt by 10% with a duration of 5 minutes)
•  Resistance Potion (Increases armor by 8 with a duration of 5 minutes )

Cave Crates

Every now and then you will come across boxes on the floor of the Caves that look like this:

you should bash these with one of your tools as they can drop various items like

•  Coins
•  Health Potion
•  Recall Scroll
  

💡 Elder's Tip:  Recall Scroll are important as using one allows you to instantly teleport back to the surface no matter where you are

Treasure Rooms

Every now and then you may come across a walled room that looks like this:

⚠️ Elder's Warning: They have a chest inside containing loot and sometimes a monster also resides in there.

if you plan on going in there take note that there is a  Stone Pressure Plate that is connected to a trap via  wire but wire is something we will talk about later, in this instance the trap is a  Stone Arrow Trap

Walk into the doorway slowly and break the pressure plate with your pickaxe. After that it is safe to enter
Loot of note inside the chest was:
•  Noble Horseshoe
•  Recall Scroll
•  Iron Bar
•  Attack Speed Potion
•  Sturdy Enchanting Scroll

💡 Elder's Tip:

• the Noble Horseshoe is a trinket that gives us a chance to do more damage.
• the Recall Scroll returns us to the surface when used.
• the Iron Bar is used in the creation of better equipment and also an  Iron Anvil
• the Attack Speed Potion increases the rate we attack for a little while.
• The  Sturdy Enchanting Scroll is very important for giving our equipment some extra stat buffs but we will get more into that back on the surface


We will go into more detail on Enchanting, Potions and the Iron Anvil when we get back on the surface but pay special attention to pick up any  Sturdy Enchanting Scroll you find in the chests down in the caves

Sapphire Clusters

Every now and then you will find a blue lit area full of crystals like this:

💡 Elder's Tip: This is a sapphire cluster. the small blue rocks here can be broken with any tool and may drop a  Sapphire. the bigger crystals can be mined with your pickaxe and will drop multiple sapphire

💡 Elder's Tip: Each of them have their own behaviour's and you will figure them out as you interact with them. you can click their names here to learn more about them if you wish to do so. or you can learn about them as you discover them when exploring

Boss Summon Item

💡 Elder's Tip: Sometimes the monsters in the cave might drop a  Mysterious Portal, it is important that we keep hold of these for later as they are used to summon the boss monster. We will go more into this later.

Passive creatures

Beet Cave Croppler

Stone Caveling

💡 Elder's Tip: these creatures will not harm you and will in fact avoid you but if you can catch them you will reap the rewards

NPC Settlers

💡 Elder's Tip: You may even see some humans walking around killing Monsters, you can Recruit them but we will go into detail on that later. For now you can leave them be.

Forest Cave Environmental Hazards

Lava

From time to time you may find pools of Lava that look like this:

⚠️ Elder's Warning: It will hurt both The Player and Monsters on contact so try to avoid this

Vampire Crypt

You may find a structure looking something like this with tombs and  Vampire inside:

⚠️ Elder's Warning: With the gear we have currently I wouldn't advise taking down this wall but you can come back for revenge later

Spider Nest

This area consists entirely of cobwebs, which significantly slow down the Player's movement. The cobwebs can be easily destroyed with Weapons, but they will grow back over time. As the name suggests,  Giant Cave Spider spawn here.

⚠️ Elder's Warning: At this point your better off waiting till you have a ranged weapon to take them on from a distance or coming back with better gear

Grizzly Nest

Sometimes you will find a  Grizzly Bear Sleeping in the caves. it will often have a  Barrel next to it that contains a  Grizzly Cub which is used to summon a pet Grizzly Cub.

⚠️ Elder's Warning: when you find him he will be sleeping and honestly at this point its better to let sleeping bears lay

The Goal Of Our First Adventure

The overall goal of this first adventure is:

to grab as many resources as we can but especially we want to grab as many of these items as we can as they aid progression and make future adventures easier:
•  Copper Ore
•  Iron Ore
•  Gold Ore
•  Clay
•  Stone
and anything else you can find and bringing it safely to the surface for use in making better equipment and progressing through the game.

Returning To the Surface

💡 Elder's Tip: Once you are satisfied with how much loot you have collected or feel it would be unsafe to continue you can either head back to the  Cave Ladder or if you have one you can use a  Recall Scroll. once you are up there we can start to Upgrade Your Gear
