The Companion Locket is a trinket that is found in Plains Cave chests.
This trinket increases the damage of each summoned unit based on the number of unused summons.
As a general rule of thumb,
- For 3 to 8 maximum summons: Summon units equal to half of your maximum summons, rounded up.
- For 9 to 12 maximum summons: Summon 5 units.
- For 1, 2 or 13+ maximum summons: Don't use the trinket.
For example, if you can have 7 maximum summons, summon only 4 units. With this trinket, your damage output will be roughly equivalent to having 10 summons without it.
Inner Working[edit]
The bonus damage percentage is calculated as follows:
Each summon slot is assigned a bonus damage percentage, starting at +100%, and reduced by 10% for each consecutive slot upto your maximum number of slot.
Example
If you have maximum 5 summon slots available, the bonus assigned are:
- 1st Summon Slot : 100%
- 2nd Summon Slot: 90%
- 3rd Summon Slot: 80%
- 4th Summon Slot: 70%
- 5th Summon Slot: 60%
For each summon slot you use, you lose that slot’s associated bonus. The remaining bonuses are summed for your final total bonus damage percentage.
So, if you summon 3 units, you lose bonuses of first three slots (100%, 90%, 80%). The remaining bonus of 4th and 5th unused summon slots are summed for the final bonus percentage damage: 70% + 60% = +130% total bonus damage.
Each summon unit's damage is therefore increased by 130%.
To clearly see the benefit, assume that your summon unit can do 100 DPS (damage per second).
- Without the trinket, summoning all 5 units gives: 100 × 5 = 500 Total DPS
- With the trinket, summoning 3 units gives each unit +130% damage bonus
- Unit Damage: 100 × (1 + 1.3) = 230 DPS per unit;
- Total Damage: 230 x 3 = 690 Total DPS.
That's equivalent to the damage output of 6.9 summons without the trinket.
